AT THE HEART OF IT (2022)
Ceramic heart encased in resin with bullets travelling towards it. This sculpture was inspired by the news of another school shooting in America. This news made me think of my kids and what it would be like to live with that fear everyday. I looked up the statistics for under 17s dying due to gun violence and was taken aback. On average, 35 die a week. That is a classroom full of kids each week. Each bullet within the piece represents one life lost in a week. It made me think how disconnected people can be from the reality of the facts and how living with something for long enough can make it feel normal. But the real fact is, this can be stopped and it must stop.
